How to get more weight on

I have this horse that is super fit- he works hard and he needs more weight. He's not really underweight- just needs more weight. He is already being grained quite a lot so I don't want to add more grain. Any ideas?

What is he getting for hay? Good quality hay at all times is a must.

He gets 7 flakes good quality timothy per day.

I would give him as much hay as he will clean up. If he will eat 10 flks/day give him to flks/day. Have you tried giving some straight alfalfa? (in addition to not instead of the timothy)

you could try cool calories, changing his grain to hi-fat.
