Default Diego: My Marchador

My son took some new photos of Diego and I this morning so thought I would share some. Diego is my 3 year old Mangalarga Marchador gelding. He was born on our ranch (I watched his birth) and he was the first Marchador to be born in Canada. He is my pride and joy. He will be my endurance horse when he is of age.

Love the pictures Marchadors those are great shots thank you for posting. Your son is good with a camera You must be proud indeed, he looks like a great specimen. Is it just me or is the Marchador a bit quarter horse-ish in type? If I did not know the breed based on those pics I would totally guess QH.

You have some pretty fine looking horses and I too am just loving the colours. Do you go for colour on purpose or does it just work out that way?

Thank you all.

The Marchadors are more "lean" built like an Arab but not as lean as them. They can have some stockiness to them similar to a QH but nowhere near as thick. Diego is a little on the chunky side due to lush green pastures.

When I was breeding, I didn't breed for color at all, to me color was a bonus. Yes there have been some horses I did buy because I liked their color, but not just because of their color, they also had to have good conformation and a nice pedigree. I have never bought or bred a horse just because of their color. I do, however, like having a rainbow in my pasture. lol

To me I see the Iberian influence in there along with the QH. If I did not know the breed I would guess Azteca. I am sure he will make a great endurance horse. You will have to keep us posted on his progress.
