Default Boarding out or horses at home?

As far as keeping horses go, what do you prefer? Would you rather have them at home and do all the work yourself or board them out? I normally really like having my horses at home but with the cold and snowy weather, doing barn chores are not cute any more. Boarding is looking more and more like the better option right now!

I don't have the option to have horses at home (live in a townhouse) so I would have to go with boarding out all the way.

I dream of owning my own small farm one day where I can keep my horse at home. I know it's a lot of work but I feel like it would be better for my horse in the long run as he is a bit "special needs" and I hate asking boarding barns for anything much extra. So, I end up driving out there 6/days a week and doing it myself and in reality if I had my own place I could just walk out the front door and bam! it's done.

After several bad experiences boarding my horse out I will only ever keep them at home. That way I know exactly what is being done with them and I can be as fussy as I want. Also I will never board any one else's horses at my place. I have been asked many times but it's just so much more trouble then it's worth.

I have done both and both have their ups and downs. Boarding out- you can sleep in if you are doing full board, go on vacation, generally come and go without having having to worry about grunt work. Boarding at home- you get to see your horses first thing in the morning and last thing at night. You KNOW they are getting what they are supposed to get because you are giving it to them .
