Default Hay Hauling!

Hi

I was wondering if everyone finds it as frustrating as I do to take one or two bales of hay with you when you travel with the horses? I have a camper on my truck, so the back of the truck is not an option. I am not able to lift it to a top rack on the trailer ( if I had one) and have little room in my tack room.

Sorry.... bit of a rant ! Anyone else having the same issue? Any ideas of making it easier? A friend mentioned that she saw someone with the hay on the trailer door????? Anyone seen that?

Thanks!

Yes this is super annoying!! If I am only hauling one horse I put hay in the trailer itself next to the empty stall beside my horse. I have a two horse trailer so it works when there is only one horse in the picture. The other option is when I travel with the horse, usually there are others going to the same place as well so I try to find out who has room for an extra bale or two. Otherwise, I make sure wherever I am going has hay for sale if I need to buy some once I am there.

Hay on the trailer door, how would that work? Like on the door where the horses come in and out?

Funny enough, this is actually something I was just thinking about. I will be travelling with my horse in Sept for one week. I don't have a trailer so someone else will be hauling him for me. I will be driving separately in my SUV so I can't take hay in the SUV. The trailer he is riding in will be full of the tailer owners hay for their horse so that leaves no room for my hay. What it's going to boil down to is that I will have to arrange to buy hay when we get to our location.

Bottom line- travelling with horses is complicated!!!

I don't have a trailer either and whenever I go to a show (I have only been to day shows) my instructor brings the hay either in her trailer or back of her truck. WE don't need a lot cause we are gone for just the day, so usually just a hay net is fine. I definately would not want to pack hay in my car though so I see the frustration. Sorry I am not much help!
