What kind of Blanket does your horse wear?
For those of you who blanket your horse, what kind of blanket are they wearing right now? I just went out and bought my horse a new mid weight blanket. He has a partial clip and has a stall at night so I think he should be good with that.

Mine is fully clipped so is wearing his heavy duty winter blanket. When it gets colder then this, I put on a fleece cooler underneath.

mine is wearing his bucus rain sheet (it has a fleece liner on the inside) with a thicker wool cooler underneath. He seems pretty toasty warm when I come in the mornings so I am hoping that's enough? How do horses fair that do not have blankets?? What do they do in the wild?

I just clipped my horse's legs yesterday so I put on another blanket under his heavier winter blanket as now he is really "naked." Gosh he's so much easier to keep clean though! His legs would get so wet and caked with sweat and then they would get all gummy (ew) and it's been too cold to hose his legs off every day. I should have done this a while ago lol.

I also use a heavy duty blanket so it will ensure that my horse is completely covered up. And I also keep a stable blanket close by, just in case it is needed.

Buddy is in a heavy weight Masta. It did have a hood, but another horse in his pasture wrecked it last year. When is gets really cold out, I then layer underneath his heavyweight. Usually a mid weight stable blanket, or a liner, or both depending on how cold it is! Last year we got down to -47 with the windchill.
Right now Spud is in a heavy weight Shedrow. This is my first winter with him, so I will see how he fares. Though he is a Fjord & chubby so I am sure he will be just fine. If it gets freezing cold out, I do have some other blankets to layer with though. In all honesty, he probably doesn't need a blanket, but I hate horses being wet!
