Default Difference between Hunter & Jumper

OK really naive and dumb question here. What are the differences between hunter and jumper? I hate to admit this but I just recently learned that they are two different disciplines. All I know is that jumper is faster? *runs and hides from embarrassment*

haha no worries I think a lot of people out there don't really know the difference. I will try my best to explain at least SOME of the differences.

With Hunters, they are judged on their style, technique, movement, their round, and sometimes conformation. It is the overall impression the horse and rider give off as a whole.

With Jumpers, they are judged on how fast they can go with the least amount of faults. It does not matter what they look like, they can look like a bat out of hell barely in control and they can win. Or they could be the most well put together pair that are rhythmical and systematic with their course but if they are too slow then they won't do well...

Thank you for the explanation. That is what i sorta thought. It seems like being a hunter is more difficult then being a jumper? I also heard if you don't have all the most expesive equipment in hunters that you won't do as well. Is that really true? I was pondering the idea of doing some low hunters with my horse but if that is the case then i may as well not bother. Seems kinda sad...

Thanks for that I am glad I am not alone. sometimes I feel really dumb in the horse world. Or, rather I am made to feel dumb by all the snobs out there who give horse people a bad name.

Its a dumb question but in my opinion there is no major difference in this? There might be a slight difference but over all it would be the same.
