NAME: RIO
BREED: Grade Quarter Pony Mare
COLOR: Sorrel
HEIGHT: 14.1hh
DATE OF BIRTH: 2004
PRICE: $3,000
Rio is your talented show pony of tomorrow! She shows an incredible talent, work ethic, sensitivity, "can-do" attitude. When she has more show mileage on her, she will be the one to beat! Rio has had approximately 9 months of dressage training on her and she is currently jumping up to 2’9” with her jumping rider. Would make an outstanding eventer.
She is brave, cautious, willing, forward and fun. She never seems to get tired or bored! She does love to trail ride, too! Just a fantastic pony with so much potential! She has a whole career ahead of her with a competent young rider or petite adult. Although she is quick, agile, energetic and eager .. she is very safe. She has never gone to buck or rear on any rider. She is only 5 years old, so she can still be classed as fairly green - she has a lot of safe exuberance and enjoys being taught new things daily.
Rio is a grade, quarter pony mare! She stands quietly in x-ties for bathing, grooming, wrapping, vet, farrier etc. She also stands obediently whilst being mounted and dismounted. She also loads easily in the trailer. She does pin her ears when having the girth tightened. She would rather work than just hang out being a pasture pet and she is most definitely at her happiest when under saddle!
She is great on the trail, although she does prefer to be the lead horse. We have put quite a lot of trail miles on her - she would be incredible as an competitive trail horse as she never seems to run out of energy or enthusiasm, yet is as safe, smooth and solid as can be! She has beautiful gaits - very athletic, rhythmic and fluid. She is very type-y of a quarter horse with a dainty head and ears, a stocky and compact body and a powerful quarterhorse hindquarter. She would make a wonderful and SAFE endurance, speed event, pony-club, 4-H, hunter/jumper or dressage pony for an intermediate to experienced child or petite adult rider.
She is not papered, and therefore not recommended as a broodmare! She is sensitive to the leg and beautifully forward going, so I would not recommend her for a very young child or complete beginner.
She is very flashy. Throughout her training, she has not offered a buck, bolt or rear with any of her riders. Rio will go slow and quietly for a novice rider on a loose rein at a walk, or she will definitely pick up the pace for an intermediate/experienced rider. She is responding very well for dressage although her conformation may restrict how far she can go. She definitely has a great enthusiasm for jumping!

Rio is up to date on negative coggins, farrier and wormer! She goes barefoot and has comparitively strong feet. She is trimmed on a five weekly basis.
Rio gets along well with other horses ... she may bully a more submissive and smaller horse, but she is does not hold the Alpha Mare status in our pastures. She has no vices such as weaving, cribbing, windsucking, stall walking, kicking, rearing or bucking. She does pin her ears and fidget when having the girth tightened, but this is largely due to the ignorance and heavy handedness of the previous owner. Hopefully, as time progresses, the ear pinning will get less and less.
Rio has had no history of injury or illness whilst at our barn .. and to the best of my knowledge, nothing of note with the previous owner.

Rio is for sale to an approved home. Please no time-wasters or tire-kickers! Thanks!
If you read any of our horse ads, you will notice that we are brutally honest in the description of our horses. We provide many photographs (See Image Gallery), videos and a "warts and all" description of each horse.
